Well you attributed to it as well. Did you call all 4 council persons and complain about the debris, the sleeping quarters, and non-permits ? Along with the illegal day laborers ?

+1 on that! Didn't she have a Florida driver's license right up until she first got elected, only to change to a New Jersey license so she could drive a city-owned car? Crappy.

Also, she also claimed her property in Orlando, Florida was her primary residence so she could get a break on the property taxes there too, readily admitted that she hadn't paid any New Jersey income taxes in at least three years before the election, filed her federal return with a Florida address AND was registered to vote in both Jersey City and Orlando. You can't have it both ways Nidia. Go back to the Sunshine State. You seem to love it there more anyway. Perhaps the Orlando city council will take you.

To any of her supporters, I don't care if this is all old news. It still stands as fact and I don't see how she deserves to represent Jersey City in any way. I pointed much of this all out at a city council meeting a couple years ago, and boy did she glare at me. You only have yourself to blame Nidia.

If she was driving a Florida registered and insured vehicle yet claimed to live in Jersey City, isn't that insurance fraud?

Do you have an example of this happening? From my experience with Jersey City zoning laws this is extremely difficult, verging on impossible. They won't allow a historic 2 family to be re-zoned as a 3 family.

I suspect, if you have an example in mind, perhaps the building always was a 3 family, but in recent years had been used as a 2 family?

they bought the place next door to me for $179,000. in cash. It was listed for $225,000 so I don't believe they're paying more than market, here they payed MUCH less. Our neighbor across the street said of the previous owners "they gave the house away"
They filled the backyard with demo debris for months before taking it away quietly in a van. They fininshed off a raw basement into bedrooms to make the downstairs a duplex. Just don't buy an electronic fridge that is programable it has a circuit board in the back that is connected to the compressor that can fail. It is a $200 board that may be prone to failure. It will cost another $200 for repair. Get the olf fashioned tried and true models with a dial thermostat.

Whirlpool also makes Maytag, Kitchen Aid, Jenn Air and Amana appliances. These brands will have the same motors, compressors and other internal parts as the Whirlpool refrigerators. If you look carefully you will see a similarity across the product lines.

There is an investment group that bought up a number of properties up where I am. The renovated the cat-piss soaked building next to me and rented it out.

The former owner told me they have been buying up properties and renting them out enough to break even. Their plan is that when the market improves, they will be tearing down a building new homes for resale.

Thought my area is gentrifying it is going Indian.. with the Indians becoming homeowners instead of just renters.

Developers have learnt from history how to relocate a specific socioeconomic group they want to target from a neighborhood. Instead of force, they use money then manipulate the market to maximize their investment.

Gentrification is another word for social cleansing and every year you can see parts of JC changing. City hall is complicit with gentrification by increasing taxes to hard working lower income families.

There is an Australian developer from the Pratt family clan which has a similar m.o. to property acquisition .... They run a global company called VISY however the patriarch (Richard) was found guilty of fraud and deception (or similar) and was stripped of a national award ... he has since died, but didn't leave a positive social legacy with many negative media reports.

Its going to be too easy to take shots at Lopez although I'm pretty sure she will deserve some of them. But at the same time I hope that people will find an opportunity here to have an actual discussion about the issues. I hope Mrs. Lopez will take the time to inform us what her platform is and lay out some substantive goals- its what I hope any candidate would do. If we keep the level of discourse at a higher level there could be no reason for Mrs. Lopez not to use this opportunity to communicate with her electorate and tell us what she has in mind for us. Or failing that maybe someone else could point us in the direction of where Mrs. Lopez has made substantive information about her candidacy available to the public?

US Masters / Dixon Managment
Newbie
Newbie

I want to point out to everyone here to walk away from US Masters and Dixon Managment at every opportunity...no better yet RUN away!!!!

They are destroying our neighborhoods...they are purchasing homes with cash which keeps families and young couples from purchasing, fixing up and integrating themselves in to our neighborhoods. Instead, we get transient renters, drifters and folks who don't care for their property or for our community.

Lets go into a little more detail shall we...US Masters will buy your home for cash. They will pay more than asking. Good for you, now that your moving to the Carolinas you can leave JC behind with money in the bank. Now, lets take a look at the consequences....your brownstone, townhouse, building etc., will be gutted, it will be carved up and the historic details will be demolished to make your two family home into a three family home. Nothing will be done to the exterior so your decision to leave the upgrades to the new owner before you sold will never be realized. Your neighbors and the neighborhood will then have to deal with more cars fighting for parking spots, renters that can care less about the property and the added bonus of knowing that the new owners (US Masters / Dixon Management) WILL NOT DO ANYTHING THEY TELL YOU WHEN YOU CALL THEM OR CONFRONT THEM.

Let me be clearer....they are about one thing and one thing only! Making money for the Australian fund that is being used to purchase JC properties. (see link below)

http://usmastersresidential.com.au/index.htm

This is a business - plain and simple...this is not about resurrecting a community or contributing in any way shape or form towards quality of life or to a better future for JC that we all dreamt of.

How it works:
Australians with money to invest in the fund are financing property purchases through US Masters who will buy our properties for profit. Plain and simple!! Do they care about anything else other than money? Do they care about the neighborhood? Absolutely not! Hey, I'm all for capitalism but when it comes to community and quality of life someone has to say something to the good people of Jersey City with hopes that we will all WAKE UP AND SPREAD THE WORD!

US MASTERS / DIXON MANAGEMENT is destroying our hopes and dreams of a better Jersey City!

I have had the opportunity to speak with many members of US Master and the Dixon Property Management team and I have learned that they are hell bent on ripping into Jersey City communities with absolutely no regard as to the outcome. It is sickening to say the least!

I am begging you to tell your friends, speak with your neighbors and share this information with anyone you know who is considering selling a building to please stay away from this company...make a few dollars less and sell your building to someone who cares, someone who wants to make a difference in our community. Please Please Please consider the outcome when selling your homes...please do your best to make a family or a young couple happy instead of contributing to a fund for profit and destroying our neighborhood in the process!

by all means...RUN FROM US MASTERS & DIXON MANAGEMENT!

PLEASE PASS THIS ON....

Respectfully,
A concerned neighbor

Try Chapel Road after 7PM or Bayonne city line. They have gals and transsexuals out and about till about 5 AM

Some of the prostitutes on Chapel Rd look and dress like any other kid waiting for the bus (there is a bus stop there on Ocean on both sides) and I know of some school girls that have been approached by johns who mistake them for prostitutes while they wait for the bus! :/
Not Good!
I'm sure these are vulnerable young girls who are probably either underage, caught up in a sex slave trafficking ring and were originally being drugged against their will and need some serious help!

Re: 12-year-old boy killed, father wounded in Jersey City shooting: authorities

Extremely sad. Rutgers Avenue has had it's share of bloodshed. I have for YEARS brought activities taking place to the attention of city hall, ward A councilman Sotolano and the south precinct. Based on his history, I really do not think Epps will be of any use either should he win in the runoff. We have requested cameras on Rutgers Avenue for years. But because it is not in a UEZ zone they refused to work out a way or to put some sort of alternative plan in place and if they did the south precinct I assume did not have enough resources to do so. However, there IS a corner "candy" (and drug?) store on Chapel and Rutgers so I can't comprehend why UEZ regulations couldn't have been changed in that regard. In the end, the pols that have been voted out, the ones that were dragged out in handcuffs due to corruption and the ONE that (THANK YOU!) decided not to run again in city hall are leaving and left (IMO) with blood on their hands as they were too busy stuffing their pockets and served with ulterior motives...GOOD RIDDANCE!
I am hoping Fulop and whoever takes ward A will be up for the task to keep our children and families safe... PLEASE HELP US!
I do in my gut feel that Fulop will and I am hoping he doesn't prove otherwise. The reason I write this is because ward A has been let down for the past several and more so, eight years!

My true and heartfelt condolences go out to this family.

To ward A and the rest of Jersey City, please know that there are hard working law abiding citizens here that DO care. To those looking for drugs, prostitutes or to shoot up our neighborhoods that are killing our children and destroying lives, please know that dontstealmyrocks is jotting down your license plate, recording you and calling it in when I catch you!

I would rather have a few discrete rub-n-tug places than have prostitutes soliciting on the street.

Back during the Schundler administration, there was a big crackdown on the hotels on 1&9. Hookers and their johns were now doing it in stairwells or sneaking into people's backyards in the Western Slope section. Prostitution didn't go away.. it just moved.

I would rather we take the approach Singapore has in regulating / controlling the practice.

Re: What has Nidia Lopez accomplished in Ward C?

I have been very curious about Mrs Lopez's record as Councilperson in Ward C. I did a google search and there isn't much. She has a wikipedia page and there is a bio for her on the Fulop website. Here is the only text from the Fulop site that has anything to say about Lopez's record:....:"Nidia has been actively involved in the community, serving on several boards and committees and working with various associations. Before and after becoming a Councilwoman, she has been an outspoken advocate for women?s issues, the homeless and expanded youth recreation in Ward C. ".... which is rather thin on details. Her wikipedia page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nidia_Rivera_Lopez gives a bio and notes that her husband was once a councilperson and that Lopez got elected on the Healy ticket so I wonder what caused her to shift over to Fulop for the last election? It also mentions the scandal Nidia had to endure when her status as a Jersey City tax paying citizen was called into question. I would love to hear the bottom line on that scandal since my recollection was that she was not paying taxes in Jersey City and registered in Florida? I could be wrong about that though and I hope someone will write in and provide the facts. Nidia lopez has her own web presence at http://www.nidialopez.com/ but on examination it looks like its a Fulop website. You would expect that on a website called nidialopez.com you would be able to learn more about her track record and her intentions for the future of her stewardship of the Ward, but there is only fluff ( poorly proof read fluff) and the odd admission that "I may not be able to do everything, but I can do something" which to me sounds like a poor choice of a slogan and in my opinion does not inspire confidence. I'm glad though that this topic is here for people to weigh in on and I look forward to reading what people have to say.

I bought a Whirlpool Gold at Lowe's. It has one of the best reliability ratings from Consumer Reports. I saw it on line at the Lowe's website where it was on sale but not on sale in the store. I printed out the on line price and brought it into the store and saved $150.00 off the in-store price.
