Starbucks coffee has more caffeine than Dunkin, so I don't think it's the caffeine that keeps people going to Dunkin. I will always opt for DD over Starbucks because I can't stand the taste of Starbucks.
Why do people do to DD? I can tell you why I do-- because it's there when I want coffee and it's not Starbucks. My favorite coffee is the coffee I brew at home, though. Oh, and Dames is good too.

I got home at about 9:30 the other night and the front door of my building was propped open. How stupid. It could have just been someone running outside for something, but I don't care. I shut it behind me. Better someone gets locked out than a robber comes in. Please shut front doors and make sure they're shut all the way.

I'd like to add my recommendation for Joe's Auto Electric. They seem to be honest there, and nice people to boot.

I found them here. It's a good site to find a mechanic, and Joe's gets 5 stars.

I need to dispose of an old room fan that no longer works. Also, a coffee maker that's on its last legs. I looked on the JCIA site and didn't see anything about this, but I know my building does not take care of these things. Anyone know the rules or a place where I can properly dispose of these things?

I wasn't responding as much as I was making a general comment on the level of discourse some people seem to favor. That word is a favorite of Trump's too, I've noticed.

Calling your fellow city residents "losers" is not an effective way to get out the vote in your favor.

Sometimes the people on this board make me sick. I hate to think that my neighbors who appear to be so friendly are in reality so lacking in compassion.

I'd say the loudest thing...the thing that actually drowns out the radio or TV for a few seconds...is the bus that runs at night. It's insane that they loop that huge bus around the park even when it's empty, but I suppose it was full until they got to Hoboken.

I can't believe the ignorance in this thread. Yes, sadly, subway groping is a thing. It happens a lot. It's never happened to me, but I have had my rear end grabbed as I was passing someone on the sidewalk, and I bet most of the women on this board have had something happen to them. As for why the woman didn't speak up right away, I know when I was grabbed, I was so startled and humiliated that I just couldn't say anything. I simply kept walking and began silently fuming that this man felt my body was his to grab and that I hadn't said anything. With one action, he reduced me to an object. It's not okay for these things to happen, and it's not okay to blame the victim.

The other night I was walking my dog on 9th St past the playground and this dog came out of nowhere and started barking and lunging at my dog. The owner had brought the dog to the PLAYGROUND to run around and defecate when there are two perfectly good god runs in the park.

I can't stand the owners who let their dogs run on the pet-free areas in the park, and it upsets my dog to see an off-leash dog. If you live in a city and have a breed that needs a lot of exercise, that's your problem and your responsibility. Take it to the dog run. My dog doesn't need that stress.

Yeah, this is not going to achieve the same thing as posting pictures of double-parked cars with license plates. I mean, come on.

When the last snow melted it revealed dog poop all around the perimeter of Hamilton Park. My dog nearly stepped in it several times while sniffing around. It is NOT pleasant when your dog steps in dog poop. No shoes to take off before they go inside, you know?
Once again-- just because it snows does not mean you are excused from picking up after your dog.

With untrustworthy customers and store employees and thieves at grocery stores in JC, is it any wonder why Whole Foods and Trader Joe's don't want to open here?

It seems like the Lackawanna or somewhere else in that area between JC and Hoboken would be perfect for TJs. You have downtown JC, Hoboken, and even NYers who might come in because the store would have parking and they could load up. But maybe that's not enough. TJs may be looking at the surrounding towns (Newark, etc) and thinking there's not enough affluence there. They may be looking at the percentage of residents with cars and wondering if the light rail would be enough to bring people in. Personally, I find it a hassle to go all the way to Edgewater for TJs, but I do go. TJs may look at the people who are willing to drive from JC to Edgewater and decide that covers it.

Oh, that's terrible. When my dog had a cyst on her backside, Dr. Green at Westside recommended removing it while my dog was under for her teeth cleaning. She also said they could do a biopsy, though she suspected it was benign. I asked for an itemized list of what everything would cost, and decided to have the cyst removed but not do the biopsy. The response was, "Okay, so we'll go ahead and just remove it then." They didn't give me a hard time at all. They seem to understand that vet care is very expensive for most people, and most people really do care about their pets.

$750 for a dental is very expensive. I just pulled out the bill for my dog's dental cleaning, in 06/2012 at Westside. She also had a cyst removed while she was under, and that was the most expensive part. But they charged $92.00 for the cleaning, plus $37 for penicillin, and $200 for anesthesia. And then about $60 for post-surgery antibiotics, though I think that was more for the cyst removal.

A basic office visit at Westside is $58, and they go over additional costs before going ahead with anything else.
I really like Dr. Green-- she seems genuinely fond of my dog and is very caring.

This probably goes without saying, but ask your neighbors to remove any menus that remain in your door for more than a day (in case you neglect to tell your neighbors you'll be out of town).

I lived in New England for a while and many public places (parks, rest stops, transit stations) have few or no trash cans. Signs tell you to carry your trash with you. It's either to save money or because they've found that fewer trash cans = less trash.

To repeat a previous poster's point, even if the median HOUSEHOLD income was 90k, split that between two adults, and it's not a lot. Throw in a couple of kids, and that's really a struggle in this area.

When I go to the ATM, there's a camera getting a close-up of my face, right? So...why aren't there cameras at teller stations, getting a close-up of each customer's face? I suppose then you could carry that logic to convenience stores and other places that get robbed, but you'd think as soon as you walked up to a teller station, a machine would snap your photo a la driver's license in case of any incidents. Am I wrong in thinking they still just have those grainy ceiling cameras?

Re: 3 Off Leashed Dogs in Hamilton Park

Of course this dog owner is not the only one who disregards the "Pet Free" signs in Hamilton Park, but she has drawn attention because her dogs (at least one) is a danger to others. We all need to abide by the rules, because we may not realize the effect our actions are having on others in they aren't blatant, as in this case. It's simply not fair to the rest of the community when a few people choose to ignore rules that are in place for a good reason. Personally, I can't even walk my dog in the park because off-leash dogs scare her when she's on a leash. And I can't blame her.

I'm not connected to the owner, but I can say that Honey Bakery is excellent. They have the cutest shop in McGinley Square and wonderful samosas, quiches, and desserts. The prices are very reasonable, too. They've been selling their stuff at the Hamilton Park farmer's market. That's how I discovered them.

I agree with others that you should look for a new apartment. I would think that if your landlord is being soft on your neighbors, he will also be soft on you and let you out of the lease. Your apartment sounds like a dangerous place to live, with mold and everything else you describe.

I would also call the numbers others have provided, though I can see why you're hesitant about taking an action that could leave a family homeless.

But definitely take charge of your own situation and find a new apartment.

I just got a recorded message saying that ballots are available at the county clerk's office.

The site says to be sure your polling place is operational. Does anyone know how to check on updates for this-- whether poll workers expect things to be up and running in various areas?
