Re: Structural question about row house

The basement fireplace has been reworked fairly recently to convert it to a functioning wood burner. The pipe dumps smoke into one of the chimney flues up to the roof. I'm not so sure that pipe setup in the second floor is up to code and safe unless they put a stainless steel liner in the flue, so if you're currently burning wood in the basement, have it checked out. If you remove that pipe, you lose the basement fireplace. If you remove the chimney on the top floor, you lose functionality on both floors below. Sometimes they run stainless steel pipe through the wall and up the side of the house if it's not an attached building but my guess is that's not an option in your case.

Update 7/7/11, 11:20 a.m. - An underground fire has knocked out the Verizon circuits which support phone operations for the Municipal Court. According to officials, Verizon is currently working on the problem and hopes to have service restored in four hours. Residents should check back here or the Official Government Facebook Page for updates.

The fireplace is a brick stack extending up to and possibly through the roof as a chimney. Sometimes they were removed at the roof line and roofed over. To remove it, you would have to start at the roof line and go down brick by brick. Don't try to knock it out below the roof line, a ton of bricks will come down on you. As for the pipe, how big is it? It's probably an old gas line that fed a gas stove in the fireplace. It was common to put gas stoves in old fireplaces when gas became available.

I remember them both. Father Uleski left the priesthood and married one of the nuns, Sister Joel. She was one of my teachers, kind of cute and perky for a nun. In hindsight, Fr. Uleski did seem to visit our classroom more often than was necessary and Sister Joel did seem to get all giggly when he came in. I remember seeing them both on David Susskind or one of those talk shows a few years later.

I designed and built a cornice for my house about 5 years ago and had my contractor install it piece by piece. The overhang was built as a 1/2" plywood box beam in 3 sections and bolted onto the house. Brackets and mouldings are lightweight foam products designed for outdoor use, purchased and picked locally at Outwater Plastics. I don't know exactly what the whole thing cost me because labor price was integrated in a larger scope of work being done by the contractor at the time but the materials were about $300.This was across a 25' frame house front. PM me your email address if interested in seeing a pic of the finished project.

It annoys me too but I think the reason they don't pull into the bus stops is because the cars won't give them a break to pull back out into traffic again and the reason cars won't give them a break is because they don't want to be driving behind a bus, myself included.

But it DID set a precedent and now the city has stated in writing that the criteria for lowering PILOT payments is based on distance from the lightrail (is that the best you could come up with?). That Crystal Point decision will be a great boon to the real estate law profession. BTW - I'm about a half mile from the lightrail, a remote area accessible only on horseback, I'm going to appeal my property taxes.

Oh, except for the titty bar on Secaucus Road but other than that I never seen no pigs.

I must be missing something in this story. The pastor sells the church, takes the money and buys himself a mansion and a yacht. The church board is fine with this. They are so fine with it that they vote to continue paying him 85G's. Did I get it right? I dunno. Don't people usually go to jail for doing things like this?
