My rate lock just expired. Anyone know of a supplier who is offering a fixed rate under $0.11 per kWh for 6 months or longer?

I see a few signs around for someone on Fulop's slate. Anyone else running.

Going to miss Yun. He was the smartest, most level headed of the councilpersons.

MDM - any local updates for potential impact from Laura? Some of the models are showing it could pass over NJ.

Most models show the storm remnants passing south of us, then strengthening back to a tropical storm once it gets off shore. So so far, just some rain and clouds.

Weatherbell thinks there might be something threatening us around Labor Day though. No details yet.

A system came off of Africa that might track to the East coast late next week.

Water does not have to be boiled for the following activities:
•showering,
•washing dishes, using a dishwasher; and
•washing clothes.

https://www.mysuezwater.com/news/boil- ... visory-issued-jersey-city

If you click the link within that message to the original bulletin, it says you have to boil if 'hand washing dishes'. The post above, given the comma placement, says your don't.

Got a robocall from Suez. We are under a boil advisory due to E-coli bacteria being found in the water. This includes any water used to make ice cubes.

Introductory martial arts for young kids?

Anyone here recommend a place that has classes for very young kids on this side of the Hudson river? Looking for something for my son.

Practicing Judo as a kid was beneficial for me... want to expose my kid at some point. Doesn't have to be Judo though.

Yup.. except for scattered showers and some wind.

Storm center is now just South of Albany.

At the time of this post, the storm center is just north of Philly and the major rain bands have moved away from us. It appears the storm is moving a bit faster than forecast.

Other than my lights flickering once and a couple drops of water through two skylights, this hasn't been so bad so far.

Max wind gusts per NAM. I left out the Euro because I found out its wind gust predictions chronically over-estimate:

Euro and NAM models shifted the storm West again... which is good for us. If this holds true, we have a wind event with not a whole lot of rain.

Euro Sustained Winds (peak). Looks like about 65 to 70 MPH (tan area in center).

How bad is this going to be vs. Sandy?

I imagine not as bad. Sandy had a number of factors that came together to make a super storm surge:

Big (wide) storm with a low pressure.

The storm took a 'hard left turn' coming up the coast, which drove surge towards the shore.

It came in during a king high tide.

If Sandy came in at low tide, it would have been nothing special for a Nor'Easter.

A real disaster would be a repeat of the 1821 hurricane which is estimated to have been a strong Cat 3 when it hit NYC. The storm surge flooded Manhattan past Canal St. That storm came in at low tide!

Weatherbell has their track farther East, with a Cat 1 hitting middle of Long Island. Their track follows the HMON hurricane model. GIF of the HMON storm track with sustained surface winds:

The model has a choice for "Wind Gusts" and "Wind Gust Swath". Can't find anything that tells me exactly what the difference is. Though 'Wind Swath' shows higher numbers.

Some of the models that just updated show the eye passing right over NYC. Euro model show a more westerly track.

A near bullseye hit on NYC put the heaviest rain bands inland:

As of this morning, every single model I checked shows the storm coming up the coast. The cone centers are about+- 50 miles East / West of each other, which will make a big difference on what we get.

Moves West: Less wind, storm surge, but a lot more rain (like Irene or Floyd).

Moves East: More wind, more of a threat to Long Island and the coast in general from waves and storm surge..

So far the storm hasn't strengthened as some of the more dire forecasts predicted. As of now, it comes up in our area as a tropical storm and not a full blown hurricane.

Based on the early models, the storm will be here around August 5th. Weatherbell has it making landfall in the US as a Cat 2 and coming up the coast fast as a Cat 1.

Most of the models show a similar track at this time. Again.. this is days out and the models will likely change some.

If someone here has lots of free time, you could breakout payrolls by zip code:

https://www.census.gov/data/developers ... p-nonemp-zbp/zbp-api.html

Doing so, you could estimate total state income and payroll taxes vs. total state aid / spending.

I am sure there is a record for sales taxes as well.

The "electrified economy" is what the "hydrogen economy" was about 10 years ago... Unicorns & rainbows.

NY is riding this unicorn to a future of rolling blackouts and crushing power bills. NJ seems to want to get on board as well.

I wish the people making these decisions would hire an engineering consultant group, that has no financial interest in battery storage, wind, and solar to introduce said people to the concept of "theoretical limits".

tl:dr version: There is no battery technology in existence or in development that can make a fully electric economy (especially without nuclear or fossil fuels) possible without creating a energy poverty and an environmental nightmare.

A side note: There were a lot of short term rentals for Jersey City on the website. I doubt many of them were owner-occupied.

Seeing the day rates I can see people were / are pulling in some serious $$$. The guy who owned the dump of a building next to me told me he cleared $178k in a single year doing AirB&B.

That's an interesting one, getting fines for listing a short term rental that doesn't exist.

So, the other question is, were you able to inform the city that that those listings on FlipKey, and who knows where else, are not your listings? I presume you actually didn't get fined yet, just warnings from the city.

I am sending the city a certified letter with the proof I have that this is a fraudulent post. Not sure if it will work. Years back I had a more of a incompetence than faud issue involving the city of Newark. Letters didn't help until I ended up in front of a judge to explain that I didn't own a particular property.

What annoys me is the fraudulent account was closed back in 2018, but the ad still appears on searches. I have been on the phone with someone in some Indian call center twice before I found someone who at least asked higher ups what to do.

I was supposed to get an email that I would reply to with proof of ownership so I could get the ad pulled... but that email never came through.

I guess I will be back on the phone with Mumbai today or tomorrow..
