Crime & Safety::Journal Square is NOT a Homeless Shelter
Quote:

AofEastSt wrote:
Since the start of the year I have noticed an increase in homeless people inside of Journal Square. Though I am sympathetic to the needy, I don't allow it to put my safety at risk.

As a young woman living with two other young women, we are harassed regularly by homeless men, and have been threatened by homeless women. Nothing seems to be happening to stop the loitering, and JSQ continues to smell like a public restroom with empty liquor bottles in the bathroom and walkways.

What can be done to help this situation so all of JC will feel safe using the services we pay for?

Thoughts? Suggestions? Ideas?

Its a sign of the times, with little or no mental health programs, the blue collar manufacturing labor work force is being reduced by the day with companies actively seeking cheaper labor overseas.
The next time you look at the clothes you buy or any white goods, also look at where it was made. I bet 90 % of all our belongings and materialistic goods are made overseas.
Even our motoring industry is reducing and assembly of them is happening outside the U.S. - This is one reason China and India are going to be the next super powers and the U.S will suffer the same consequence as the Roman Empire.
This country will implode if the government doesn't step in, because we have less then 10% of people with a university graduation.
The genrification of our city is a direct cause for people ending up in our streets - The Nazi's did it to the Jews and set up ghettos, and here we are looking at ways to get these homeless people hidden or removed from society ... We haven't learnt a thing from history but made it an acceptable way to relocate and victimize a socioeconomic group instead of a religious one that icluded gypsies, the gay community and those with mental illness or disabilities.

So much outrage over a childish, cowardly act? Is it because the offenders are probably white and are supposedly destined for bright futures? Meanwhile kids are beating the crap out of other kids in our other city schools. I see very little outrage over events at Dickinson, like it's expected and therefore acceptable. As we saw in our most recent election, sometimes the so-called best and brightest are neither.

Politics & Government::Rich Boggiano for Jersey City Council Ward C
Wow there is some annoying behavior going on in this thread. I wonder if it wouldn't make more sense to simply start a new thread with a title like "What has Nidia Lopez accomplished in Ward C"? And then her supporters could step up and articulate exactly what she has done or in which ways her policies had made a difference. And wouldn't it be better for the upcoming runoff election if we knew what Mrs. Lopez intends to do if elected? I myself could never imagine WANTING to be an elected representative of the people, but if I did I can't help feeling I would be out there doing my best to explain myself.

Looking to buy a new fridge - don't need anything fancy, just something that can last a long time.

Can someone recommend a model that you have good experiences with? I looked briefly online, but there are so many choices, don't know where to start.

Thanks in advance!

PS where are some good places to get reviews on appliances?

It seems like a waste of time, money and voters' patience.

I agree. It seems a waste when the winners already won fair and square.

You might not feel that way if you backed a loser who got 2nd place with 12% in a field of 15 candidates. That person might stand a great chance of winning the runoff. Look up how Schundler won a special "no runoff" election with 17 percent of the vote in field of 19 candidates. This is why instant runoff makes so much sense.

The woman who reported her window shattered told police that she heard multiple shots fired.
A man who was
sitting outside on Summit Avenue at the time told police three men walked up to the house and one of them pulled out a handgun from his waist and fired eight shots at the building, reports state.

No one was injured, reports said, and two bullets, one from a second floor hallway and one from a first floor apartment were recovered.

The three men were only described as wearing black hooded sweatshirts with their faces covered. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call (201) 547-JAIL.

Sounds like the drive-by shooting the three Hoboken guys did in the Heights a couple of weeks ago when the 72 year old grandmother got shot.
