Machcinski/The Jersey Journal

UPDATE: Suitcases stuffed with bags of cement

Jersey City police have cordoned off an area of the BJ's Wholesale Club in Downtown Jersey City after five suitcases -- wrapped in plastic -- were found there.

Members of the JCPD's Special Operations Unit, as well as EMS and Jersey City firefighters -- roughly 20 total -- are investigating the mystery suitcases found in the lot at the Marin Boulevard business.

Police spokesman Stan Eason said police were notified of the find at 9:05 this morning by security personnel at ShopRite, which is next door to the BJ's.

The five full-size suitcases are wrapped in green plastic and are now being examined by police using a device to show x-ray images of the contents. One person on the job at the scene said they found cement in one of the suitcases.

The BJ's and ShopRite and other stores in the area -- and the roads -- all remain open. One police officer speculated that because there was a clothing drop-off container in the lot that perhaps someone was looking to donate clothing.

=======================
<img src='http://imgick.nj.com/home/njo-media/pgmain/img/jersey-journal/photo/2013/06/-c20d51882f4fefd6.JPG' alt='Click to see original Image in a new window' border='0' onload="JavaScript:if(this.width>300)this.width=300" />

13 bags of cement found in plastic-wrapped suitcases left in Jersey City lot

The set of mysterious suitcases wrapped in green plastic found this morning in a parking lot in Downtown Jersey City contained bags of cement, Jersey City police said late this morning.

The suitcases were treated as suspicious packages, and Jersey City police Bomb Unit, Emergency Services Unit, firefighters and EMS members responded to the BJ's lot on Marin Boulevard. The suitcases were examined with an x-ray machine and then opened.

In total there were 13 unopened bags of dry cement in the five suitcases, police said. Police were initially called at 9:05 this morning by security personnel at ShopRite, which is next to the BJ's.

Police cordoned off an area of the parking lot at BJ's, but all stores in the area remained open while police investigated the suitcases. No roads were closed.

I got a look at the breakfast menu tonight, looks pretty good and actually bit less expensive than Skinner's and Hamilton Inn.

They're also going to have dinner and a movie night, lobster night and happy hour muscles for $1.75.

The beer was $7 and the burger ($11 for a bacon cheeseburger) was OK, but nothing special.

I'll certainly be back once they have the full menu available, if for no other reason than to spend a few less bucks on brunch.

It could also mean that they endured suffering or that someone they loved (mother) died while they were incarcerated (eg mother died from a broken heart).
Either way, happy the guy was just punched in the face and no more harm was done to him.

Main Forum::Improper Passing of a Frozen Dessert Truck
There's a ice cream truck parked practically in the crosswalk on Washington Blvd across medium from PATH station and entrance to Mall for hours - at all hours of the day/evening. Nowhere near a playground or park. Cars drive by it constantly as they go through the intersection when light goes green (3 lanes travelling south) - no one ever stops.
Does the lane closest to food truck, I mean Ice Cream Truck, have to stop and the other two lanes as normal?

Main Forum::Radiant floor installer
Radiant is sweet, but getting good advice is really difficult. Experts at heat loss calcs told me radiant wouldn't work on my terrazzo kitchen floor in an uninsulated brick building. I did it anyway (hydronic pex suspended in the joist bays under the floor) and it works like charm, floor never gets above 78.

There's a heat systems guy down at General Plumbing Supply in Bayonne named Tom who I've chatted with and claims to know a lot about radiant, he might also refer a contractor.

Esperanto's, at least under the "new" owners (coptic Egyptians?) was the closest thing to cardboard I have ever eaten.

Quote:

blanquiita wrote:
Quote:

fraulein wrote:
Glad someone bumped this. Then they changed owners and the new owners drove it into the ground. Worst pizza ever. Are the original owners re-opening it? Oh please oh please.

Real Estate::Capital Realty Negotiates Sale of 10 Buildings in Jersey City for Over $23M
JERSEY CITY, NJ—Capital Realty Associates announced the $23.2 million sale of 10 buildings comprising 304 residential units in the McGinley Square, Journal Square and Greenville sections of Jersey City, N.J. This deal marks the largest multifamily property sale in Hudson County this year, in both unit number and price.

The buildings, located throughout Gifford, Kensington, Van Reypen, Belmont, Clinton, Claremont and Bergen Avenues, were approximately 98 percent occupied at the time of sale. The rent for the apartments, which include some studio, one bedroom, two bedroom and three bedroom apartments, ranges from $620 to $1,300 monthly. The seller had purchased the buildings recently, in 2010.

“Vacancy was high at the time of purchase,” Ben Greenstein, president and managing director of Capital Realty, said in a statement. “Following the purchase, the property underwent major renovations. The buyer plans to continue to upgrade the property and increase its value.”

The upgrades and renovations will maximize rental potential. Capital Realty represented the seller and procured the buyer. Legal counsel was provided by Richard S. Kelin of Feinstein, Raiss, Kelin and Booker of West Orange, NJ, on behalf of the seller. The buyer was represented by Allen J. Popwitz of Brach Eichler, LLC, of Roseland, NJ. Financing for the purchase was provided by Signature Bank and arranged by Michael Muller of Eastern Union Funding.

Centrally located in the McGinley Square, Journal Square and Greenville section of Jersey City, the properties enjoy close proximity to shopping and recreation. Beautiful Lincoln Park adds character and appeal to the area. With the PATH train nearby providing easy access to New York City, the location is ripe with opportunity and amenities for commuters and families.

http://nreionline.com/new-jersey/capi ... ings-jersey-city-over-23m
