JERSEY CITY -- Three men were stabbed during a fight at Newport Mall on Saturday night, officials said.
All three victims suffered injuries that were not considered life threatening after the 6:30 p.m. attack, city spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione said in a statement.
A 20-year-old man suffered the most serious injuries and was stabbed multiple times. A 21-year-old was treated for stabbed wounds to his hands and a third victim refused medical attention. The 21-year-old was uncooperative with police, she added.
The incident appears to have been the result of a fight inside JC Penny that escalated into stabbings.
NBC New York reported the incident occurred on the first level of the store in the bedding department. Blood stains could be seen on the white floor and fixtures were out of place.
"I seen the cops running towards the store but everyone split up," Alquan Eddy told the station.
A spokesperson for JC Penny did not immediately return a request for comment. No arrests have been announced in connection with the fight.
The mall is no stranger to melees. In 2016, the mall's Easter Bunny was caught on camera fighting with a disgruntled parent. Then at Christmas time the same year a fight broke out around the Santa display. http://www.nj.com/hudson/index.ssf/2018/02/3_stabbed_after_fight_inside_mall_department_store.html
