Description Embankment Alert: Please Come out for 2 Critical Embankment Meetings on September 13th

For those of you who will be attending Tuesday night's important Planning Board Meeting to support the Embankment Coalition, there is an additional agenda item which warrants your serious attention.

The Home Depot Application will be considered also on Tuesday.

The proposed location will wedge this traffic generator in between the exit and entrance to the Holland Tunnel -- bounded by Marin and Manila and 12th and 14th Streets. At a projected 500+ vehicles an hour entering and exiting this location, the impact on tunnel traffic will not only be profound, but will also funnel its way into the Hamilton Park and surrounding communities, and Hoboken as well.

Please register your opposition to this ill conceived project before the Planning Board, City Council and the Mayor's office, as well

Dear Embankment Supporters:

Your phone calls and letters to the Mayor and Council in support of the Embankment have made a huge difference in the City Administration's response to the Embankment crisis.

But as the developer tries aggressively to establish new realities on the ground through subdivision and site plan applications, we must step up our efforts to protect the site.

Now we need you to attend two critical meetings, both on the same night: Tuesday, September 13. If you get to the first, we will get you to the second.

1. Planning Board meeting, 5:30 p.m., City Hall, 280 Grove Street - 2nd floor. The Planning Board is deciding whether to grant a subdivision on one block of the eight-block Embankment property. (He is already seeking demolition and site plan approvals for additional parcels.)

We will ask the board to turn back the applicant's attack on our historical and open space resource. A few speakers will remain at this meeting while the rest of us move on to the next meeting, described below.

2. Hudson County Open Space hearing, 7 p.m., Lincoln Park Administration Bldg. (building closest to Casino in the Park). Although the Embankment application for a County Open Space Trust Fund grant was highly regarded, the Trust Fund board has announced that they are not giving the Embankment a grant because the City had not supplied an appraisal figure nor declared eminent domain.

This hearing will begin an appeal process. The Coalition has requested that the Mayor appear at this hearing to assure the board he is pursuing acquisition. We need you there to demonstrate the constituency for this project.

PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU CAN ATTEND. It's important that we know how many people we can count on.

Please call 917-379-3455 to let us know you will attend these meetings.

Tell us if you would like to speak. Let us know if you can provide a car for car-pooling from City Hall to the Lincoln Park destination, or would like a ride to the second meeting. If enough people respond, we will provide a bus from City Hall to Lincoln Park and back to the Downtown area.

DIRECTIONS to the County Open Space Board Meeting:

We'll be carpooling to this location from City Hall, but if you go there on your own, take Montgomery to West Side Ave, make a left onto West Side, drive south until you reach Lincoln Park (at Belmont). Make a right into the park, go around the circle, taking the second right. Pull into the parking lot for the Casino on the Park catering hall. In the rear of the parking lot is a driveway that leads to the building. There is parking right in front of the building.

Thank you for your support. Again, please call or email to let us know that you will be there!
